Home Statement Regarding Felix Jones' Participation in the 2010 Brian Davis Football Camp July 13, 2010

In an unfortunate set of circumstances, Dallas Cowboys Running Back Felix Jones has decided to withdraw from a commitment to the youth of Little Rock. Mr. Jones had previously accepted payment as a deposit to participate in the two day Brian Davis Football Camp to be held at Little Rock's War Memorial Stadium on July 16-17th.As part of this arrangement, Mr. Jones also agreed to make several appearances in conjunction with publicity events for the camp - including the now infamous Arkansas Travelers "Meet and Greet" event that was to take place on June 24th. Several thousands of dollars were also spent on advertising and promotional materials for the event.

Felix's expectation in the camp was such an opportunity for the camp organizers that the dates of the event were changed from its original date in late June to July 16-17 in order to accommodate Felix's schedule. On Friday, July 9, 2010, Mr. Jones informed the camp through his attorney, that he was bailing out on the camp and issued a check back for the deposit that he had demanded to secure his participation.

The Brian Davis Football Camp has been a successful annual event for years and Felix Jones' participation - along with that of other former Razorbacks - was expected to make a very memorable experience for the children participating. Even the local business sponsors were very excited to have Felix participate and were willing to help provide financial support to meet Felix's financial demand. The June 24th "Meet and Greet" event was scheduled to raise awareness for the camp and any money raised was expected to be used to offset costs for underprivileged children. Felix was well aware of the event, which he had personally agreed to participate in and, together with his brother, set a participation fee of $5,000 - despite the assertions of his attorney who claims that Felix did not know about the event.

Now, not only has Mr. Jones disappointed these children, but he has also tarnished the great reputation that the camp has developed over the years by failing to live up to the expectations and obligations that he accepted and that he had been paid to fulfill. Mr. Jones has further caused harm by cancelling his participation less than a week before the scheduled event leaving the camp without any opportunity to react to his lack of commitment to the children of Little Rock and the State of Arkansas.

It is a shame that Mr. Jones has taken this course of action. If he had no interest in being a part of the event, he should not have cashed the check. Instead, he has disappointed a lot of people and damaged the good reputation of a very worthy cause.
